Health classes explained

What Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard denote, and the factors that shift your placement.

Insurers tier term premiums by rate class. Labels shift among firms, but hierarchy stays fixed: Preferred Plus (or Super Preferred/Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus, Standard, then table-rated tiers for above-standard hazard. Tobacco users occupy a separate track at elevated prices.

What underwriters look at

Body metrics, BP and lipids, hereditary cardiac or malignancy risk before 60, motor-vehicle record, drug history, occupation and pastimes, and tobacco exposure. The peak class requires clean marks nearly across the board; Preferred relaxes slightly; Standard Plus and Standard tolerate regulated disorders such as medicated high blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

The health inquiry requests candid self-description: Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, Average with Standard. Quotes assume that tier; carriers confirm final class post-underwriting. Uncertain? Quote both brackets and contrast; underwriting settles it. Inflating your health class won't trim the real premium—just muddle your estimate.

Susman Insurance Agency assists you in identifying carriers with more lenient underwriting for your particular situation—often a bigger rate lever than advertised prices.
